For my Birthday in December I received the ‘Anti Journal’ by David Sinden and Nikalas Catlow. I added this journal to my wish list after being followed by the Anti Journal team over on twitter (@anti_journal).
After posting a photo of this book over on Instagram I had a few people asking me if it is like the ‘Wreck this journal’, and the answer is, yes it is! But it also has its own uniqueness, it has many different prompts and I have found it less’ outdoors’ orientated than the WTJ, which suits me better.
First off this book has a hard cover which I like as I have a tendency to throw this type of books in my bag, so it stops it from getting beaten up quite so much. However having the hard cover can make it a little difficult to keep the pages open when drawing or painting. But I easily solved this by using bulldog clips to keep the pages down. The pages are very good quality paper. When using marker pens it doesn’t bleed through the pages, which is a bonus!
Pretty much every page of this journal has instructions or prompts. ranging from ‘put your paintbrush in a pair of compasses’ to ‘create love’. I particularly like the collage style pages, prompting you to use old books and magazines.
Some of my favourite pages so far includes the paint by numbers pages, ‘draw how you drew at aged 4’ and ‘repeat and alter’.
I have completed quite a few of the pages but I don’t think I am even half way through yet, so I will be updating more here with my progress.
Do you have an Anti Journal? Or will you be adding one to your wish list? Let me know in the comments what your thoughts are on this new interactive journal 🙂
Thank you for this review! When I first saw this book on your Instagram I was instantly drawn it 🙂 I looked up online but didn’t find many reviews and that many pictures of the pages, so this is great to get a better idea of what this is about!
I’m definitely adding this to my wish list now!
